This room is a combination of the kitchen and family room. The kitchen opens into the family room. We have a dark espresso wood flooring and kitchen cabinets. We also have a dark wood billiards table in the family room. What color should we paint the walls?

I would paint the walls a light taupe color or anything light tan. It will keep the room from being too dark and also allow you to bring in any other color you want as accents. This way you can change your accent colors often without too much expense.
I’d paint them white. The wood is a beautiful accent. Too much brown though, and the brown will overrun any other colors.
Colors that would go well with the wood are; bright orange, bright green, cream, teal-ish blue, white, yellows etc
