What stops YOU from using your own cup at Starbucks?

Question by Mr. Due Able: What stops YOU from using your own cup at Starbucks?
If you go to Starbucks or Pete’s or any Barista establishment, why don’t you bring your own cup, instead of using a paper one?
It would be a small part to help with the enviroment, but we should bring our cups with us.

Because, I usually don’t make a plan to go get coffee. It’s usually something that just happens on the way to work or while i’m out shopping, etc…………
I don’t keep a cup in my car with me.

    Great idea!

Lots of people do it at Dunkies…bring their non spills or thermos bottles — BUT Why NOT A NATIONWIDE BYO CUP campaign!

As a matter of fact everyone should be doing it–companies, wherever coffee is sold.

Why? Because paper cups cannot be recycled they are contaminated once they are used for food! Styro takes more than 500 years to breakdown in a landfill as does plastic!

I imagine what stops most people from using their own cup is ignorance (about the waste) or just pain forgetting to bring a cup….or it’s too much trouble.

Maybe if they see others doing it–they will follow!

I must be honest, i love your question. It’s a reality check for many of us. A lot of us know you can do that and we dont. It’s much better for the enviroment and even for us. (one of those cups can stay in my car for ever before i throw it out.) I guess the convenience that we have gotten used to just doesn’t let us. It’s sad but true. I feel guilty. It is also true that you can use shopping bags which are kinda like tote bags to bag your groceries instead of the plastic bags you get at the store. This is also a good option. Thanks for the heads up.

Because I don’t want to bring my own cup. I am perfectly happy to use a Starbucks cup, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing it. The Greenies are out of control, and I am getting sick of being told how to live. I am just about to the point where I will do just the opposite of what they want.

I don’t go to Starbucks. Coffee is a drug which I don’t use.

now that won’t look sad at all when you go thumble around your bag for your own cup and everyone is just looking at you and thinking wierdo – same reason why I would not bring my own bags to a supermarket its just not socially acceptable

Its an excellent idea, and I use my own mug for the coffee machine at work – while watching the 100 or so there every morning disappear by afternoon :(
It won’t catch on with commercial stores because the size of cups and mugs differ and it can be hard to judge sizes. However, mostly it won’t can on because most places use paper/cardboard cups – not a problem environmentally. I’d be more concerned about how far the coffee beans have travelled around the world, and the unethical treatment of the workers who pick the beans.
